Allan Afuah’s research focuses on understanding the determinants of firm performance in the face of disruptive technological changes, such as the Internet. It is distinct from other research endeavors in that rather than investigate how the impact of a technological change on a firm's capabilities and incentives to invest affects the firm's performance, his research asks how, when and why does the impact of a technological change on a firm’s suppliers, customers, complementers and related institutions erode or reinforce the firm's competitive advantage? His current projects include work on the impact of the Internet on business models, and the role of co-opetitors in the face of technological changes in supercomputers, workstations and cholesterol ethical drugs.
